Students, staff and parents are celebrating following an excellent set of academic and vocational results achieved by Collegiate Upper Sixth Formers.
The government were clear that they would bring this year's results back in line with the last set of A Level and BTEC results awarded before the pandemic, in 2019. This does not mean that students have performed less well this year, but the exam boards have raised the marks required to achieve the various grades in comparison with the last three years where they “helped” those most disrupted by the pandemic by lowering grade thresholds.
That said, the results were great and 90% of our Leavers achieved the grades they needed to get onto their first-choice university course or apprenticeship. This reflects the hard work put in by the students, but also the very sound advice and support they have received from their Tutors and the Sixth Form and Careers’ teams. And, as you are all aware, our approach has never been to focus solely on education as a means to achieving examination results. Our holistic approach to school life means that our Leavers will have learned so much beyond the confines of any exam syllabus. This cohort have contributed to school life in so many different ways and, in doing so, they will have picked up a great many other personal qualities, such as resilience, determination and kindness. These qualities will stand them in good stead for the future. The headline figures are here, and then there are a few individuals who are perhaps worth particular congratulations.
42% of A Level grades were awarded at A/A*
73% of A Level grades were awarded at A*/B
54% of CTEC and BTEC grades were awarded at Starred Distinction / Distinction (the equivalent of A*/A at A Level)
19 students (25% of the cohort) achieved the equivalent of AAA or better
90% of university applicants secured their first-choice university
We would like to congratulate all our Year 13 leavers and welcome them to the OCs!
