As part of National Careers Week, we welcomed a host of inspiring professionals to a special Networking Breakfast, where Year 13 students had the opportunity to engage with mentors from a diverse range of careers. The event provided a platform for students to ask insightful questions, share their aspirations, and gain valuable career advice from individuals who have excelled in their respective fields.
OC Sam Bates (née Low), (Class of 2004), an Associate Partner at Deloitte, provided insights into her career in accountancy. Len Collacott, Owner of Windmill Care Ltd., alongside Sarah Ashcroft, a Director of Windmill Care Ltd. and former ITU sister in Birmingham, discussed their experiences in healthcare and business leadership. Chris Gillet, an experienced investment banker who worked at Salomon Brothers London and ANZ Bank in both Australia and Singapore, shared his journey in the world of finance.
The event also featured OC Vishal Balasingham (Class of 1992), Head of Corporate Finance and Broking at Optiva Securities and President of the OC Society, who offered guidance on the corporate finance sector. OC Matt Leek (Class of 2003), of Parmenion Sports Management, captivated students with stories from the world of sports agency, and engineer, Hannah Milliner, who has worked with Bristol Water, and is currently head of Water Growth and Delivery with OCU in the Greater Bristol Area, contributed her perspective on the engineering field. Finally, OC Jon Mills, (Class of 2002), Business Development Manager at Healix Health Services and former professional rugby player at Sale Sharks, inspired students with his journey from professional sports to coaching and beyond. He also shared his experiences as Head Coach of OCRFC.
The morning was a resounding success, with students showcasing their confidence, curiosity, and preparation throughout their conversations. Events like this highlight the incredible strength of the OC’s alumni and professional networks, as well as their dedication to supporting the next generation of leaders. A heartfelt thank you goes to all the mentors for their time, expertise, and enthusiasm in making this event such a memorable and enriching experience.
