Another accolade for the Old Colstonians RFC.
On 29 September a party from the Club accompanied Fergus Manners and his family to an awards ceremony at Twickenham to recognise the stars of the grassroots game. We were in illustrious company with a star group of England international players in attendance to show their regard for the rugby family. The day was attended by over 400 people and went by in a flash- despite lasting the whole day!
Fergus was one of only 6 finalists for the Men's amateur player of the year award. He was pipped on the line but to be a finalist was quite a feather in anyone's cap. The Club was really proud of his achievement.
Fergus came back to OCRFC last season and has enjoyed spectacular success. With the Club he won the Gloucester Junior Cup, The Bristol Combination Bowl, and missed promotion in the league by one place and one point. Not a bad start! But Fergus was also selected to represent The Bristol Combination and Bristol United. He joins members of his year group from the School including Club Captain Josh Grant. Former pupils currently form a nucleus of the Club and with close links to the school being re-forged there looks like being a strong club and school performance over the next few seasons.
Fergus says 'I have really enjoyed coming to the Old Boys Club and playing with the guys from my school days. The ethos here is fabulous and the rugby has been great fun as well as a success. I think its important to enjoy the game and we all really are doing that'.
The Club welcomes all players and is particularly keen to extend an invitation to former pupils to call in and meet us either on a match day or Wednesday evenings training, both take place at the School.
