David was born in Hilperton, Wiltshire in July 1945 and then the family moved to Westbury-on-Trym, Bristol. At the age of 5 David attended the local Church of England school, but after he failed the 11 plus, he just passed the entrance exam to Colston School, thus a very important part of his life started when he entered Colston's in 1956 as a boarder in Beaufort House.

David was good at sport, playing for the under 13's, under 14's, 15's and first 11 and latterly playing for the first 15 gaining his rugby colours. David really enjoyed his school days at Colston's, giving him everlasting friendships.

After leaving school David joined the Old Colstonians where he played both Rugby and Cricket and made even more friends. He made over 400 appearances for the O C Rugby, gaining his colours from Philip Besley.

During the summer months David enjoyed cricket, playing on many lovely cricket pitches all round Bristol and Somerset.

He also loved golf and was a great supporter of the OC Golf Society travelling on trips to England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. He especially enjoyed the bi-annual trips to Carlyon Bay in Cornwall. He was so pleased that in 2008 he became the 2 day Cornish champion.

The OC Society has been a large part of David's life - he was honorary Treasurer for over 34 years. He was the driving force in the sale of the OC sports ground at Mile Straight, investing the proceeds prudently which helped financially so that the Society can continue to support students to attend Colston's School and OCs.

David started his training to be an Accountant in 1962 and after qualifying went into industry with Clark Shoes before deciding to go back into private practice at Sully & Co. in Bath, where he became a partner and in 1978 it was decided to split the practice with David taking on the larger limited companies, setting up on his own as Shaw & Co. which he ran for 30 years as senior partner.

In 1976 David met his wife Rachel and they were married in 1978. They were blessed with three children and four grandchildren.  In 2007 David sold the practice to enjoy a well earned retirement. He and Rachel loved their garden and creating a child friendly play area for his grandchildren.

David & Rachel enjoyed a busy social life with Bath Rotary, Bath Golf Club and the OCs.

Cacker has left us with terrific memories for us to cherish, but I will miss most when talking to him, in person or on the phone, his opening words 'how are you my luver?' and there was always a cackle.

A true friend. RIP
