David J Briffett died in October 2017 at the age of 82.  He was President of the OC Society in 1974.

David attended Downend Church school with Pete Huckle, and they both obtained scholarships to Colston's in September 1946. He was in West House (Aldington), his number was 49 and at school he excelled as a rugby fly half.  On leaving school he joined the Old Colstonians  Rugby Club where he was an excellent fly half and inside centre. He enjoyed the whole atmosphere of the club and helped with running of the club.

He started work with E S & A Robinsons and then moved to Robertsons, where he worked his way up to a director in Manchester.

After he retired from Robertson's in the early 90s he joined the OCs Golf Society and reinvigorated it, taking over as Secretary. Under his guidance we now have three meetings a year and the very popular biennial trip to Carlyon Bay and he was never happier than after dinner sitting in the Green Room with a drink chatting to all his friends. David was the inaugural Cornish champion in 1996, also at Carlyon Bay we had the hotly contested house match over the Par 3 course.

It is with great pleasure that we have re-named the Carlyon Bay Trophy to The Briff Cup in his honour.

David always loved his rugby throughout his life and was a regular supporter of Bath Rugby.

David leaves his wife Sandra, two daughters and has a grandson at Colston's.

David was a great OC and a true friend who we will all truly miss.

Bob Jennings
