Sir Robert Syms MP

Robert was a pupil at the Prep School from 1966 until 1970 when he entered Colston's Upper School. He represented the school 1st XI at hockey and was a School Prefect leaving in the summer 1975.
 
For 20 years after leaving the school he worked in his family building business and property company based in Chippenham.
 
He served as a Councillor on both North Wilts district Council and Wiltshire County Council contesting his first Parliamentary Election in 1992 for the constituency of Walsall North losing to Labour.
 
In 1997 he was elected Conservative MP for Poole in Dorset.


 
He has been re-elected on five further elections.
 
Being elected in June this year with the majority of 14,209 over Labour.
 
In 2010 he became Chairman of Regulatory Reform Select Committee. He served until 2012 when he joined the Coalition Government as an Assistant Government Whip. He left the Government in 2013.
 
Between 2014-2015 he became the Chairman of High Speed Two (London to Birmingham) Special Select Committee to hear 2600 petitions by people affected by the proposed railway line.
 
In 2016 and the change of the Conservative leader Robert joined Theresa May's Conservative Government again to serve as a whip, this time as a Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury.
 
Robert re-joined the back benchers after the General Election in June 2017 and was knighted by Her Majesty The Queen on the 12th of October this year.

Sir Robert has kindly offered to organise a visit to Westminster for a party of OCs in the new year.
