Tracy Mace writes:
The headmaster, Jeremy McCullough, and I had a visit today from an OC, David Adams (Roundway House 1965-68). He is over from his home in Zimbabwe visiting his daughter.
He came along with his daughter Catherine, son-in-law Kevin and granddaughter Storme, who all now live in Exeter. His grandson Michael was at school so could not join them for the visit.
David wanted to have a trip down memory lane while on a trip to the UK and Catherine his daughter thought it would be especially good for him to see his old school. Colston’s was where he was introduced to rugby.
He recalls many friends from his time at Colston’s and hopes that now we have reconnected he can make contact. He was friends with Austin Sheppard and Alan Morley. A few years ago a group of boys from Colston’s went over to Zimbabwe and visited him on a trip / rugby tour. Olly Barkley was among the group. David told me how he took them all fishing and they caught their supper. David recalls that Olly’s dad was a year below David at Colston’s.
David explained that he has been an author and that the school has a few of his books in the library. He writes under the name of David Bower (I think?)
He was thrilled to see his old school and was very moved by his visit. He has asked if his ashes can be scattered at the school when his time comes. He explained it is either here or the Zambezi river, as both these places hold a special place in his heart. The headmaster, Jeremy McCullough, said we could accommodate his wishes.
He was pleased to accept an Old Colstonian tie and a copy of 2016 Cribsheet.
Amazingly I found a black and white photo of pupils from 1965 and David was on it! That pleased him greatly.
David identified himself on this photo with the pen
Now we have his email we should be able to keep in touch.
