We recently had the pleasure of catching up with Archie Attwood, who was back on the Collegiate School grounds, filming his latest university project ‘Welcome to Somerset’, at the OC’s pavilion on Sunday 23rd February. His cast was a heartwarming mix of OCs, family, and friends, all coming together to help Archie bring his vision to life.
After leaving Collegiate School in 2021, Archie embarked on a gap year, traveling across America with fellow OC, Tom Wadey. This adventure took them through various states, working along the way to fund their journey. Now, Archie is pursuing a BA Hons Film Degree at Oxford Brookes University, a course he “instantly fell in love with” due to its practical nature.
Archie's said that his “experiences at Collegiate School played a crucial role in shaping his decision to follow a career in film”. He enjoyed studying history and drama, which fueled his passion for creativity and storytelling. He fondly recalls the support he received from the drama department. Miss Porter and Miss Willis were instrumental in building his confidence, and he discussed how much he cherished the skills he learned at the technical club with Mr Boase and whilst assisting with the school production of "Bugsy Malone."
Recently, Archie returned to Collegiate to film at the OC Pavilion - a place filled with cherished memories.
“My Dad is an OC legend; he has always been a keen supporter of the school and my choices”.
The OCs have been an integral part of Archie's life, even down to hosting his 2nd birthday party at the Pavilion! This made filming at school on Sunday, feel like coming home, a connection that many OCs share upon their first return.
After graduating, Archie is eager to create more projects and work in the industry to fund them, with the aim of taking his creations to festival runs. He dreams of having his voice and creations out in the world.
For current students interested in pursuing a career in film or creative arts, Archie has simple yet powerful advice: "Just go for it." He feels fortunate that creative arts were so positively encouraged at Collegiate. His A-level choices allowed him to delve deeper into his passion for film, using every opportunity to explore themes of film and the industry, whether in drama, business studies, or history.
Archie expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from the OC family. He particularly appreciates the assistance of Matt Leek (OC, class of 2003) in his project, as well as Martin Tayler's efforts in reaching out to OCs to become extras in his film. These connections are clearly invaluable to Archie, in helping him strive for his dreams.
As we look forward to seeing Archie's future creations, we wish him all the best and can’t wait to see his name on the big screen!
