We were delighted to welcome John Poulter, OC, (1945) to school on Wednesday 1st May. John was passing on his way back up to the Midlands from Wells and, when he saw the steeple, popped over.
John was at the school from 1939-45 and entertained us with stories of nightly visits, after 1941, down to cellar with his belongings wrapped in a house coloured blanket, growing vegetables on a plot on the school grounds to supplement the rations of the day and of the standard haircut which all the boys got regularly.
Mr Snaith always evokes strong memories and John also recalled fire drills escaping down the chute. Fortuitously Ed Beavington, Assistant Head, was around as we toured, overseeing the CCF group photos, and he knew about the fire drills. He subsequently sent through photo which can be seen below.
John has a profile on Colston’s Connected and would be delighted to hear from you if you were at the school with him. Alternatively, if you contact alumni@collegiate.org.uk we will put you in touch.
It was lovely to meet John and his daughter- please remember that we are always happy to show you around if you fancy a trip back to Crib.
