The Morley family visit to Colston’s

Last week we were delighted to welcome members of the Morley family back to Colston’s to re-commemorate the contribution that Chris Morley (OC 1959 – 1970) made to Colston’s. Chris had been a very valuable member of the school and the Old Colstonians before passing away unexpectedly in December 1999. To mark his passing, the family donated a splendid trophy to be presented on Prize Day each year. However, years of the trophy being enthusiastically handled by its winners had left it in slightly less than tip-top condition so the family very generously decided to replace it.

Chris’ brother Alan (OC 1958 – 1968), wife Angela and son Sam (OC 1990 – 1993) presented the amazing new trophy to our Headmaster, Jeremy McCullough. They enjoyed a tour of the school with the First XV and First VII Captains and then had lunch in the dining hall with a number of aspiring rugby players. Alan still holds the record for having scored the most first class tries and the youngsters were keen to hear more about the school in the good old days. (Fortunately, the stories were carefully vetted in case the youngsters learned too much!)

The beautiful silver trophy is still presented every year to a senior pupil who has distinguished themselves representing the school by dint of their Sporting Endeavour.
