The OC's Magnificent Seven of Mike Brown, Kev Griffiths, Mike Humphries, Bob Jennings, Bonz Jennings, Dave Tooze and Paul Winterbottom, set off on 30 April for a golf expedition to East Devon.

The first day's golf was at East Devon Golf Club - the weather looked good and expectations were high. East Devon played hard with a few choice words of 'blow' and 'bother' as balls headed into the trees, never to be seen again. Mike Brown had the best score of the day with 35 points, closely followed by Kev Griffiths. We then returned to The Masons Arms, Branscombe for refreshments and a good night's sleep.

The next day we headed for Lyme Regis Golf Club - a beautiful Course on the cliffs with fantastic sea views. We looked out for The French Lieutenant's Women on the Cobb, to no avail. Bob Jennings had the best score of the day with 36 points, very closely followed by Kev, Mike H, Bonz and Paul. The leader board was very tight. Back to Branscombe where we took Tooze Tours to The Fountain Head Inn - seven of us in his car, with two Dolphins in the boot! A very pleasant evening.

Next day we were back to East Devon Golf Club. Would tiredness creep in? Not a bit of it. Young Mike Brown stormed back with 36 points to put him narrowly in the lead.

The next day we walked to Branscombe Vale Brewery as we wanted check on quality control. The last game was played at Woodbury Park, very hard going, up and down, up and down, but we all persisted valiantly with the overall Champion being decided on the last puts on the last hole. It ended up in a tie with Mike Brown and Bob Jennings.  Dave Tooze was a little inconsistent, but improving, and I feel he was going to peak at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club at the OCs Spring Meeting on the following Sunday.

A great trip, wonderful comradeship. Looking forward to the next one.

Bob Jennings
